The “Wise guy” Frank Buglioni had a great 2017 in boxing linking up with Matchroom’s Eddie Hearn, going onto defending his British light heavyweight crown twice and headlining at the 02 arena against the unbeaten Ricky Summers which was an outstanding performance by the wise guy. What can we expect from Buglioni in 2018?
Frank has stated his next fight will be against fellow Brit and Commonwealth champion Callum Johnson. With Johnson being the mandatory challenger for the British tittle and holding a belt with an unbeaten record makes this fight a thrilling one. The fight with Johnson was supposed to have happened last year on the Joshua vs Takam undercard back in October, but Johnson had to pull out through injury but now the fight looks to be announced very soon and possibly on the Joshua vs Parker undercard which could be staged in Cardiff once again.
Frank hast stated that he is “coming for all 0’s” in 2018, mentioning names like “The Beast” Antony Yarde, who is currently ranked number one in Britain, which fans have bee calling for for some months now. The two have had a back forth over social media with offers being made between each other, these offers have been unofficial of course.
Frank Warren promoter of Yarde has been very vocal on this fight and wanting the pair to square off, even making public offers via IFLTV on YouTube which went onto see Eddie Hearn, promoter of Buglioni, making offers which sent boxing fans into a frenzy, but nothing came of it.
In my opinion we will not be seeing the Yarde fighting happening anytime soon. Like I have stated before, you’ve got a lot of politics to get through with SKY and BT via Boxnation but maybe one day we might see it, who knows?
I have to take my hat off to Frank as he could have easily vacated the British title and travelled to America to fight the likes of Sergey Kovalev, which was offered to him for a lot of money, but he turned that down in order to win the British tittle out right and that itself has to be respected and admired.
Another massive fight for boxing fans is the Hosea Burton rematch. To recap for fans, Buglioni beat Burton in the 12th and final round of their incredible fight with a TKO stoppage. Since then, the rivalry between the two fighters has grown even further and with both fighters signed with Matchroom this can only mean it’s a matter of time before we see the rematch surely? What some fans may not know is that Buglioni turned down the fight between himself and Burton. When Callum Johnson pulled out of the bout, Franks comments were “Why should I do him any favours? Him and Joe Gallagher told me I should earn my shot so I’m telling them to EARN IT!”. Frank knows himself that the rematch with Burton is huge fight with a lot of money to be made for both fighters.
