ICYMI – GUEST ARTICLE: Dogboe won’t dismiss Rigondeaux for first defence!

By Thomas Lyons of The Fight Business

Newly crowned WBO Super-bantamweight champion Isaac Dogboe isn’t ruling out a potential first title defence against Guillermo Rigondeaux when he returns to the ring in August.

Dogboe (19-0, 13 KOs) dethroned Jessie Magdaleno in April with an 11th round stoppage after being dropped in the very first round of the fight at the Liacouras Center, Philadelphia.

The Ghanian insists he wants to unify the division but open to a fight with one of the pound for pound best at 122lbs in Rigondeaux despite his devastating loss to Vasyl Lomachenko earlier in the year.

Dogboe, a former three-time ABA champion, is looking to be back out in the US in August without an opponent or venue announced but adamant he’ll get the unification fights with the likes of WBA champion Daniel Roman, Rey Vargas, who holds the WBC belt or Ryosuke Iwasa who is the current IBF king after he makes a solid defence of his title.

Nicknamed ‘Brave Son’, Dogboe doesn’t want to rest on his laurels and is looking further ahead with ambitions to become a multi-weight world champion in the near future.

Moving down from featherweight, the 23-year-old has also considered challenging WBO champion at 126lbs, Oscar Valdez.

“My first defence will be in the USA on August 25 and then I want to unify the division and face the very best,” Dogboe told Sky Sports.
