SONNY FREDRICKSON DEMOLISHES ONE TIME WORLD TITLE CHALLENGER IN ONE ROUND, EYES WORLD TITLE CHARGE IN 2019

By Chris Glover

Sonny Frederickson continued his impressive rise up the world super lightweight rankings this past weekend, as he dispatched world title challenger Joseph Laryea in the opening round of their contest in Dearborn, Michigan.

Frederickson looked systematic as he broke down the Ghanaian Laryea in relatively comfortable fashion in round one. Fredrickson opened up about his victory and what he sees for himself now going forward.

The Toledo native said, “Firstly thank you to all my team, my coaches and my management team at Victory Sports and Entertainment for getting me this fight and keeping me active. Obviously, there were some issues with my opponent at on the World Boxing Super Series show not making weight, so I really appreciate my management team making sure I stayed as active as I should have so I am very grateful for that.

“I come out of the blocks quickly and showed off my skills and got the victory early on. I was very happy to be able to do that in that fashion and I hope people take note that I have the ability to mix it with any world level fighter. Laryea had boxed for the world title in the past, he wasn’t a walkover. I work hard in the gym and that shows in my performances.”

Fredrickson holds a world rating with the IBF and the towering midwestern discussed his plans for the remainder of 2019, “I want to remain active and keep learning. I am young but I definitely believe I have what it takes to become world champion. I have time on my side and a great management team in VSE backing me too, so I will listen to them and my training team and take the right fights and the right time.”

One of Victory Sports and Entertainment chief’s Mike Leanardi gave his take on his charges performance last weekend and his plans for him in 2019.

The Vegas based manager stated, “Sonny got a very good win last weekend and I couldn’t be happier personally with his development. He’s a great kid and is very popular in Toledo and I believe he has a massive future.

“Our plan is to work our way up the world rankings, and get him the right opportunities at the right time. I believe Sonny can go all the way and he is only getting better. When the time is right he will be a world champion.”
