Rising Florida Bantamweight Brian Cannady discusses upcoming contests, amateur career and more

By Chris Glover

Rising bantamweight standout Brian Cannady is all set for his sixth professional outing this week, as he looks to light up Atlanta this weekend with another knockout performance.
Cannady was one of Florida’s shining stars in the amateurs, winning multiple regional and state titles and he was considered unlucky to not win a national title despite coming close on several occasions. Now a professional, the Fort Myers native discussed his amateur background and his transition into the professional ranks.
He said, “I was a good amateur and was unlucky to not make it to the elite level in the amateurs. I won lots of regional and state titles in places where there was always stiff competition, so I did take a lot out of the amateurs from an experience standpoint.
“I always wanted to be a professional, that was my goal from when I started boxing as I feel that I’m more suited to the professional style. I’m a 5’10 bantamweight and I can punch as I’ve shown in my first 5 pro fights so I feel I can go all the way in the pro ranks.”
Cannady has 3 fights lined up in quick succession starting this weekend in Atlanta and continuing in Nashville and Tampa in the coming weeks. The Floridan gave his thoughts on being kept active and what people can expect from his upcoming contests.
Cannady said, “People can expect explosive performances, but I have to say thank you to Ryan Rickey and Oddsox for helping get me these opportunities. Without them, none of this would be possible so I’m delighted to be able to stay active and learn quickly in the pros.
“I’m looking forward to displaying my skills again and my knockout power and that’s what people can expect from me. I want to win titles in this game and I know I have to knock these type of fighters out in style to get there. I want to be at the top and I have the backing to get there so it is now down to me to make it happen.”
