NEW: DAILY BOXING UPDATE – 19th OCTOBER

  1. Judge Terry O’Connor to appear before BBBofC stewards

Following a very controversial result in this past weekend’s Riston vs Vasquez Matchroom main event, lots of criticism was aimed at judge Terry O’Connor. Not only did the judge give Lewis Ritson the fight by a large margin, videos of him looking at a mobile device during the bout have come out on social media. The British Boxing Board of Control are going to investigate this further with a big question being whether it was his phone or a digital scorecard.

  1. Luis Ortiz set for return on November 7th

Almost a year after his rematch with Deontay Wilder, Luis ‘King Kong’ Ortiz will return to the ring. Ortiz will be taking on Alexander “The Great” Flores in a 10-round main event in Los Angeles. Unbeaten heavyweight Frank “The Cuban Flash” Sanchez will feature in the co-main event against Brian Howard.

  1. Former heavyweight champion Chris Byrd makes remarkable turnaround

At 50-years old, former heavyweight champion Chris Byrd has gone through an incredible body transformation. Currently in phenomenal shape, Byrd said he used to be a middleweight but when no one wanted to fight him he ate his way up to heavyweight. After some serious health issues, Byrd decided to turn his life around after he feared not being able to walk his daughter down the aisle. Byrd is reportedly eyeing a return to the ring as a middleweight.

  1. Lopez’s management speak on his performance against Lomachenko

Following an outstanding performance on saturday, Teofimo Lopez now sits as the undisputed lightweight world champion. His management have now given their say on the fight as Split-T Managment’s David McWater said “Teofimo was totally dominant, and Lomachenko had no answers for him. Boxing has a new king, and the sport will be better for it.”
