GUEST ARTICLE: Just the start of a journey for Jez: Smith gets his Southern area title shot to kickstart a promising 2018

By Thomas Lyons of The Fight Business

Harrow’s highly touted prospect Jez Smith (10-0-1)  gets his shot at the Southern area welterweight title and is expected to meet fellow undefeated champion Louis Greene (9-0, 5KOs) in an explosive domestic encounter.

A European bronze medalist and so far so good in the professional ranks, Smith has earnt his way up from the small hall scene and edging closer to that breakthrough into the spotlight of bigger platforms.

The 24-year old was last out in action on the stacked British warriors show, at the Woodside Leisure in Watford on May 19 and recorded a comfortable points victory over Sam Omidi.

However, Smith will be setting his sights on the next chapter of his career as he begins to target the biggests fights on the biggest shows possible and put himself into real title contention this year.

Brother of Mitchell Smith who has yet to announce his long awaited return to the ring, Jez Smith is situated in a thriving 10 stone 7 division domestically, with the likes of Josh Kelly, Tamuka Mucha, Conor Benn all on course for a British title shot.

Big challenges await Smith who must come through another tough assignment on June 30 if all goes to plan and what promises to be another top night of championship boxing, featuring the strong stable of fighters both Mo Prior and Greg Steele have supported on their respective journeys.
